Worship Participation Opportunities

Participate in the planning, design, and presentation of worship. Each service takes lay participation, each with a variety of levels of time commitments.

Musical Arts

The Music Ministry encourages all to develop their God-given gifts to express themselves musically for the Glory of God. There are a wide variety of ensemble opportunities for all ages, skill levels, and time and commitment levels. Please visit Music Ministry for details, schedules, and sound clips.

Liturgical Arts

  • Visual Arts: Create visual arts including banners, graphics for bulletins, and "staging" materials for special services or presentation. We are always looking for volunteers with conceptual skills, as well as those willing to help with installation. Contact Sharon Francis
  • Creative Planning: Different teams are formed for each special service (such as Service of Remembrance, Christmas Eve, Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter) or special liturgical season (such as Advent, Lent, or a sermon series). If being involved with the planning and support of any of these service sparks your imagination, get in contact! We’ll find a time for you to meet with staff and pastors to help plan and develop creative worship elements. Contact Julie Ford
  • Flowers: orders and arranges weekly Sanctuary Arrangements and special floral projects such as Easter lilies and Christmas poinsettias. Contact Sherril Barber by leaving a message at the church office, (925) 283-8722.
  • Scripture Readers: We are looking to for a team of strong readers (those with a dramatic flair and oratorical gifts). Readers receive some amount of training including microphone technique and coaching on diction, pacing, and tone.  Contact Sharon Francis
  • Sanctuary Guild: The sanctuary guild maintains the literature in the pew racks and related preparations for Sunday Morning Services. Thirty members of the Guild each serve four times a year. Guild membership and scheduling is coordinated by Howard Hall. New volunteers are currently being sought. Contact Howard Hall.
  • Sound and Light Support: Setting up sound equipment, recording services, duplicating CDs of services, running sound and light boards. Contact Sharon Francis.

Worship Hospitality 

  • Hospitality Core Team: Maintains the vision for Worship Hospitality; provides support and training and opportunities for spiritual development for the ushers, greeters and substitutes who make up the eight Sunday morning Worship Hospitality Teams; Oversees the Sanctuary Guild.   • Ushers/Greeters: Teams provide ushering and greeting for Sunday Morning Services. These teams serve every fourth Sunday. The initial service commitment is for a six month cycle. Contact Nita Mariano.
  • Substitutes: A list of trained substitutes is maintained for the Sunday Morning Worship Hospitality Teams. Each substitute receives training so that they may serve as members of the Sunday morning teams in the absence of a regular team member. Substitutes may become regular team members as openings.
