LOPC Vision

The Session of the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church, having spent time in prayer, study, and reflection, has committed itself in faith under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to the following vision for the congregation:

We see a church that is Christ centered.
This church isinclusively centered on Christ and tolerant of differences, celebrating privately and publicly the stories of how God has touched our lives.

We see a church that is a model of outreach into its community, region and the world.
We strive to have 75% of our members involved in some area of mission work and 25% of our total giving devoted to supporting mission activity.

We see a church that provides genuine community and fellowship.
We will have over 125 small to large groups, ranging from Bible study to social activities, either sponsored or related to the Church. These groups are formed by the congregation with guidance from the lay and staff leadership to meet the needs of the congregation and will provide all ages the opportunity for a robust fellowship and community.

We see a church where members and friends are cared for and nurtured.
Pastors and lay leaders work together as ministers of healing and hopeto ensure that all members of the church are cared for.

We see a church where children and families are nurtured and fully involved.
We envision an inclusive, Christ-centered community that reaches out to families in all their diverse forms and at every stage of life with comprehensive programs.

We see a church that is devoted to learning and spiritual growth.
Sermons, classes and courses will provide a depth and clarity of theological reflection, with frequent quests capable of expanding our knowledge and understanding as a community of faith.

We see a church that is growing in numbers and vitality.
A covenant of membership will be communicated to new members, and the church will have a comprehensive program to assimilate new members into the church.

We see a church filled with faithful stewards who generously deploy their gifts and talents in God's service.
We communicate to our members the goal for each Christian of a 10% tithe. We also see this church as a faithful steward of the gifts and talents of our congregation and we will be a breeding ground for leaders, trained and resourced to have an impact for Christ in the world.

We see a church that is adequately and appropriately staffed for growth, with an extremely active and involved core of lay leaders.
We envision a church that is centered on the gifts and talents of hundreds of laypersons, adequately supported and empowered by a talented staff.

We see a church that will be housed in an improved and extended physical plant.
The church campus will be an esthetically pleasing and functional environment that our members and community will be proud of and utilize fully.
